The above Grocery Stores all have a liquor/wine/beer store beside them (except Superstore in New Glasgow & NEEDS in Tatamagouche).
There are gas stations in Tata (2), Wallace (1), Pugwash (1), River John (1), Pictou (+2), New Glasgow (Lots), Truro (Lots) & beyond...
Country Bread Basket on Brule Point Road before 4pm or
Ford Gas Station on Main Street in Tata. Not open late.
They take bottles and much more. In the DINO WAGON food truck parking lot beside Foodland on Main Street in Tata.

*A BRIEF HISTORY LESSON:
WHY A BEER BOTTLE IS CALLED A "GROWLER" -
In the late 1800s/early 1900s, fresh beer was carried from the local pub to one's home by means of a small-galvanized pail. Rumor has it that when the beersloshed around the pail, it created a rumbling sound as the CO2 escaped through the lid, thus the term "growler" was coined. ~ www.beeradvocate.com

A South shore day trip!
A popular trek from Halifax or the cottage:-head to Lunenburg via truro & trans canada 102 to 103,then work your way back up through Mahone Bay, Chester, Hubbards, st margaret's bay, The Swiss Air Memorial, Peggy's Cove and into halifax! It is well worth the effort as the south shore differs greatly from the North. A beautiful & very full day!

HEADING TO PEI. THE EASY DAY TRIP FROM TATA!
oUR FAVE PEI day trip DIRECTIONS :-from tata, Follow highway 6 past pugwash,-at port howe we prefer to turn right onto 366 to experience the rural beauty & seaside views, -turn right at baie verte onto 970 & quietly enter New brunswick. keep an eye open for the winegarten vinyard and drop-in. see link below.-drive all the way through scenic port elgin (look for some striking charactor homes) -turn right onto trans Canada 16 and continue over the long flats leading to the cape and the bridge. watch for moose crossing the road here. really.-the bridge costs $46 (you pay once when you leave) & is noted as the longest in canada. at approx. 8 miles across it takes about 10 minutes to drive. upon arrival in pei, Be sure to stop at the foot of the bridge. Borden-carlton is a fun visit with their tourist center, playground, ice cream counter at cows, shops, pei wine, PICNIC ITEMS & more.
-special note - this drive is under 2 hours without stops & takes you through 3 awesome provinces!!! How can you beat that? :)
